Tovarna dušika Ruše has been producing calcium carbide since 1918. It has a great spectrum of usage. During the reaction of calcium carbide with water the gas acetylene develops, which is used as a "DISSOUSS gas" for autogeneous welding. Besides the calcium carbide it is a basic raw material for the synthesis of a wide spectrum of organic compounds - from polymers and condenzation products, synthetic rubber to organic solvents and other organic materials.

CALCIUM CARBIDE FOR DESULPHURIZATION
Calcium carbide for desulphurization is used in the desulphurization process in the steel industry and foundries. The adding can be carried out in different ways:
1. blowing in with inert gas(N2, Ar)
2. in a cored wire form
3. submersion
4. pouring
5. manual adding (shaking ladle)
6. mechanical adding
With calcium carbide for desulphurization it is possible to remove 60 to 80 % of sulphur out of the melt.
